Review by Divergent_2020 -- Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren
Soul Seeker begins with a lawyer trying to get his client, Benjamin Poe, to speak about what happened that fateful night. Poe, an honorable fireman, was now in jail for a murder he swore he didn’t commit. His marriage with Lexi was on the verge of collapsing and his son, Gabriel wouldn’t speak to him. Just when his relationship had shown signs of improving, a strange man causes havoc in their life. That man was Crighton, the soul catcher. On one hand, Lexi, who had already lost her daughter wasn’t ready to lose her son as well. And on the other hand, Poe learns some scary details about his son. To protect his family,he musters up the courage to challenge the reaper himself. After a thrilling investigation, followed by an unfortunate twist, he finds himself in jail.
Meanwhile, Crighton moves on to carry out the next task assigned by Lucifer. He had to capture an angel. He had almost succeeded in it but the scientists captured both him and the angel. He had to escape with the angel or else he would have to face Lucifer's wrath. While the conversation with the angel was impacting him, he would be tortured in Hell if anybody even sensed it. The wicked Crighton was losing control here and loving an angel was out of the question. He now had to make some difficult decisions before it gets too late. The future of Poe, the demon, and the angel looked rather blurry. All the three worlds collided here quite horrifyingly. But what choices would they make?
This book has two parts. The first part takes you through Poe’s journey and the second takes you through Crighton’s journey. I think it was smart of the author to start with Benjamin's story first. Along with Poe, the readers also learned about Crighton and his world. This is the first paranormal thriller I have ever read. Although I was skeptical at first I ended up thoroughly enjoying it.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I didn’t dislike anything. It is professionally edited. There is minor profanity but it wasn’t a hindrance. I would recommend it to those who like reading fantasy, thrillers, and paranormal stories. If you look closely, you will realize this is a classic tale of good versus bad. What an irony that this story involves the demon himself! It has some sickening human beings, some not-so-selfless angels, and a demon looking for redemption. It also has other well-written characters. It has a tight plot which makes the book gripping and interesting.
When we are kids, we are told about Heaven and Hell. Some of us grow up believing it, some of us don’t. Yet, Soul Seeker will make you believe in this world. Kaylin McFarren writes about these worlds so well that you will end up rooting for Crighton. This book had my attention from the start. It takes you into this world of fantasy and makes you feel all the emotions. It is beautiful, to say the least!
