Crime novel enthusiasts should strap in because this novel will propel you into a world where the crimes are gruesome, and the suspense feels real. In The Dark Web Murders, Brian O’Hare masterfully explores inhumanity by pitting an astute chief inspector and his team against a diabolical serial killer.

The Dark Web is home to content both sinister and illegal in nature. Among this content, a blog comes to light. Here, the serial killer known as Nemein writes exhaustive accounts of the murders he commits. Sheehan finds it difficult to draw connections between the victims and establishing a motive behind the killings. What’s more, the first victim was a high profile judge and the head of a sinister secret society of wealthy elites. As the investigation unfolds, the team quickly discovers that this society gives new meaning to words like 'evil' and 'cruelty'. Sheehan and his team hardly have any clues and only a few leads to go on. How do all the seemingly random elements surrounding the case fit together? Most important of all, will they be able to catch Nemein before it's too late?

Brian O’Hare has created a captivating novel that stands out amongst others in the genre. He is well-versed in crime, investigations, and philosophy, with his passion and knowledge for his craft apparent on every page. I appreciated his complex use of language, which often compelled me to take a minute and reflect on what he wrote. The character list for this novel is quite extensive, but each one felt unique and well-developed. The plot is also quite complex, but O’Hare skilfully navigates between the different scenes and characters, and he kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I particularly enjoyed the team dynamic he portrayed in the book, and their interactions with each other felt natural and authentic.

This novel is a high quality work of fiction that lives up to my expectations of the genre. There was nothing I personally disliked about my reading experience. That being said, this novel is not for the faint-hearted. Inevitably, the gruesome nature of the crimes means that some violent scenes can be expected, along with some profanity. Readers will be appalled by the level of cruelty people can be capable of. Younger readers should definitely steer clear of this one. As I mentioned before, this novel boasts an impressive cast, which might cause readers to feel a little lost in the story. Luckily, the author includes a detailed glossary with a brief description of every character. He also explains all the acronyms and terms associated with the police force.

I hardly found any errors, and it is clear that this book was professionally edited. Considering that I am now a fan of this author’s work, I award this novel the highest rating of 4 out of 4 stars. This particular novel is the fourth installment of The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries series, which means that I can look forward to some extensive reading. I highly recommend this book since it stands well on its own within the series. Crime novel enthusiasts will love the elements of suspense and mystery that make up this brilliantly written story. O’Hare is clearly a force to be reckoned with in the crime genre, and readers will find this novel well worth their time.

I loved it too. I predicted the killer, even though that didn´t bother me. Did you guess who it was? Lovely review, btw
