Review by Bertha Jackson -- Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren
What makes a loving Christian father shoot and kill his only son? Fire Captain Benjamin Poe did, and now he is the most hated and feared man in Lochton, Illinois. While waiting to be executed, he decides to tell his lawyer, Pierce Beaudoin, the truth of what happened. Benjamin claims he never intended to kill his twenty-one-year-old son, Gabriel. Benjamin says it all began when the College Inn, where Gabriel was employed, burned down, killing the male chef and two female waitresses. While fighting the fire, Benjamin hears that Gabriel called in the fire but refused to provide any details. Benjamin talks to Gabriel and Gabriel insists he had nothing to do with the fire, and he was in a bar across the street at the time of the explosion. Benjamin is still suspicious. Three weeks later, the police arrest a glowing green-eyed vagrant for being in the burned building. He insists on talking to Benjamin. Why does he want to speak to Benjamin? Who set the fire? Why was Gabriel killed? You will need to read Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren to find out.
There was a couple of things I particularly liked about this book. Firstly, the development of the emotional and physical characteristics of the characters was right on target. The narrative used by the author in describing each of these characteristics allowed me to see the differences between beauty and ugliness and good and evil. I could easily picture the angels and the demons. Finally, there are many thought-provoking lessons in this book. One of my favorites was the difference between opportunity and temptation. “Opportunity might knock once, but temptation leans on the doorbell.” Have you ever noticed in your own life that you encounter many good or evil temptations and only a few opportunities?
There was nothing I disliked about this action-packed and fast-paced book. The book is well-written with a smooth flowing plot. My interest was grabbed in the first few pages and remained throughout the book. I had a hard time putting the book down because I wanted to know what happened next.
I believe this book was edited by a professional as I found only one small error in the entire book. This one minor error did not distract from my reading enjoyment. I gladly give this book 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to adults over 18 years of age who enjoy paranormal crime thrillers. I do not recommend this book to younger readers because of the nonborderline profanity content. The sexual content is mild and not exotic.
