Review by Claire Riddle -- Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren
Although the life is not a bed of roses for Benjamin Poe, a firefighter in Lochton, the days go by quietly, until something bad happens. The College Inn where Benjamin's son, Gabriel works, is on fire and brings death to three people. No evidence was found for the cause of the fire, but Benjamin wonders if Gabe was behind this since the dead ones were the most hated ones to his son. Then, a stranger appears in town, who in fact, has come to prove Benjamin's guess is accurate. It turns out that this stranger named Crighton is no one but a soul catcher directly from the Hell. Benjamin Poe's peaceful life falls apart as he struggles to save his only son and end up killing Gabriel with his own hands. It becomes too late when Poe realizes that Crighton had set a trap to take Gabriel's life.
Being the best soul collector of Hell, Crighton's next mission is to catch an angel's soul. While he is on his mission, a group of scientists called Sovereign Sector catches him along with his prey, Ariel. While this demon and angel make attempts to break out, Crighton's view on angels change, and he develops feelings for Ariel. Although the soul catcher and the apprentice angel are not fully aware what lies ahead, they are bound to make a bond which would turn everything upside down. But would Lucifer want to lose his best soul catcher and the soul of a young angel? Only the readers would know how this would end up.
Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren is a brilliant combination of everything: fantasy, mystery, romance and suspense. I loved the way the author had put a bit of everything together, to give a cinematic experience to the readers. The characters and the environment, be it Hell or Heaven, were described carefully and, to the point. Even for a second, I did not find this novel boring, specially being a reader who always avoids romance novels.
There was nothing I disliked about this novel. It was divided into two parts, and the antagonist of the first part became the protagonist in the second part, which I had not seen in a book before. But it was not an obstacle for the flow of the story, and I liked it.
The book was professionally edited, and I found a very few typos. As a reader who really enjoyed this amazing novel, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. The typos I mentioned above were not a reason to deduct a star, and I would love to put this book among my favourites.
Soul Seeker took me to an amazing world where not only demons and angels fought, but also loved each other. This mysterious world was full of action and suspense too. For the whole time, my eyes were glued to the book, eager to know how this intriguing story would end.
I highly recommend this novel for anyone who loves a romantic supernatural story. But this is not for the readers under 14 for it contains violence and mature content. Moreover, this novel includes biblical elements which are essential for the flow of the story, yet they might bother religious beliefs of some people. In general, this is one of the best books I've read, and it is a must-read for everyone who enjoys supernatural suspense.
