Review by Suekihleng -- Minor Arcana by Jerry Lambert
Ghostly apparitions, ancient curses, turn of the century brothels, Parisian socialites, and New Orlean’s high society. What do these all have in common? Read Minor Arcana by Jerry Lambert to find out! Georganne Blaylock is trying to put her past trauma and scandal behind her and move her interior design business forward in modern day New Orleans, along with her business partner Tom Standridge. But some things refuse to be left in the past. Not only can no one seem to forget her business scandal from a year ago that nearly ruined her career and almost cost Georganne her life, but she is also plagued with nightmares from spirits of the past that seem to be trying to deliver a message. Minor Arcana takes the reader on a heart-stopping excursion through time as Georganne struggles to understand what the ghostly message is and how it can change the entire course of her life. And how does it all fit in with the similar nightmares Blair Huston is having far away in Paris? Is Blair a friend or an enemy? As Georganne delves deeper into the mystery, she finds herself wondering if there is anyone she can truly trust.
Jerry Lambert has a style of writing that keeps you turning the pages and unable to put the book down. I thoroughly enjoyed the aspect of alternating chapters describing events in modern times with chapters describing events of the past that set a backdrop for the modern storyline. The build-up to the end kept me intrigued, and I was genuinely surprised by the conclusion when the big reveal occurred of who the villains ultimately turned out to be.
I actually found very little in Minor Arcana that could be considered negative aspects of the story. The book was well-written and captivating with satisfactory editing. I did occasionally find the numerous characters of the story a bit hard to keep up with at times and found myself looking back to trigger my memory as to where a character had first been introduced and what the connection was. However, that would be a minor flaw that really didn’t affect my reading enjoyment much at all.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I found Minor Arcana to be quite captivating from page one and on. I really enjoy a good mystery book and the supernatural aspects of the story made it even more riveting.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a suspenseful read with a good bit of horror thrown in, along with a splash of erotica. The exciting storyline will keep you on the edge of your seat and just may keep you up at night as well.
