A Chance on Sunday, by Brenda Bell, follows Chance Sunday. He was a police officer, but after an undercover investigation, involving a motorcycle gang, his family was eliminated. Afterwards, he became a shadow of his former self. He retired and became a private detective. One evening, a woman came to his office and asked him to help her find her daughter, Laurel. Laurel was a student at the "state college in Pinedale," but she was working at a research laboratory, cleaning up at night.

One Thursday night, Laurel was in the lab, studying for a test, when three masked persons entered the lab by the back door and did away with everyone in the basement. After the incident, the police did not find Laurel but saw her purse, phone, and textbook on the table in the lunchroom. They assumed that she was an accomplice after a
pharmaceutical salesman came forward to say that she stowed away in the back seat of his car. Was Laurel really involved in the crime? If not, why was she in hiding?

Consisting of 245 pages, A Chance on Sunday is a quick and an engrossing read. Every page I read made me want to know more of the story, which has a lot of twists and turns that make its plot unpredictable. I just couldn't guess what would happen next or who the killers were, particularly when Sunday started visiting and interrogating Laurel's friends.

Furthermore, comprising some action, secrets, and bad cops, the book is very comprehensible. The conversations are intelligent and occasionally amusing. There are intriguing backstories and present events that are interwoven in a captivating manner. I was glued to the novel until the last page. I doff my hat to the author; her story is a masterpiece.

Regarding the characters, they are interesting. There are enough details about them, both the good and bad guys, which make them seem lifelike and relatable. After all the protagonist, Sunday, had gone through in the past, he is still a cool-headed and smart man, though he likes taking chances. There's nothing I don't like about the novel. It'll be a good read for fans of the mystery genre, but those who do not like this genre may not want to read it.

In conclusion, I rate A Chance on Sunday 4 out of 4 stars. I didn't give it a lower rating because it's well written and spellbinding. Moreover, it was professionally edited, though I saw a few errors, which are not distracting.

I am, without a doubt, a lover of the plot of this book. My favourite genre to read has always been crime mysteries. And I'm guessing this will be one of them. Thank you for your review. I enjoyed reading the same.
