Deadly Odds 4.0 by Allen Wyler is the nail-biting fourth instalment in the “DEADLY ODDS” cyber-thriller series. Arnold Gold, a self-proclaimed geek, is hired to solve a ransomware invasion for a law firm in Seattle. The job offer is shrouded in secrecy and an element of malfeasance. Gold aspires to expand his one-man company in order to be able to work in both Honolulu, where he resides with his girlfriend, and his hometown of Seattle. This causes him to feel slightly inclined to pursue the job offer despite his apprehension and concern.

Gold initially feels hesitant to accept the job offer and his reluctance is only amplified once he meets the firm members in person. Despite being described as too trusting, he still feels an element of unease hanging over him as he uncovers more information about the ransomware attack. This gut-feeling of unease only amplifies as the story progresses. One gets the sense that a framing and a cover-up are underway as more of the characters begin acting suspiciously when more information is uncovered.

There was no aspect of this novel that I disliked as I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the novel and all of its twists. My favourite aspect of this novel was how the tension was maintained throughout the book. I found that even in the less eventful scenes, the element of danger persisted. I also liked how, despite not having read the previous three books in the series, I was never confused about the characters. The story was laid out in a manner that made it easy to follow and engage with.

I give Deadly Odds 4.0 a 4 out of 4 stars rating. The story kept me on the edge of my seat and I found myself suspicious of every character’s motives. The suspicion only added to the tension as the cryptic story unfolded. I found myself formulating my own theories all the while being fully engrossed and entertained by the plot. The book is well edited with helpful symbols that denoted the location of Arnold Gold, helping the reader differentiate between Seattle and Honolulu.

I would recommend this fourth instalment to anyone who enjoys tension-filled cyber-thrillers or mysteries. I found myself repeatedly held in suspense while I wondered how Gold’s issues would be resolved. The story may not be suitable for younger readers due to the vulgar language, sexually suggestive content, as well as some of the incidences like murder.

Cyber-thriller books are my absolute favourites. I'd love the know more about how Gold was able to solve the ransomware invasion. Great review.

Seems like a fast-paced, thrilling novel, though unfortunately not my style. I will probably skip this one, even though the hidden plot twists and interesting main character have caught my eye.
It is a quite informative review.

The book has an awesome thriller story. The plot is intriguing and suspense is nail bitting. It's indeed a must read.
