Benjamin Poe is captain of his firehouse. However, his life is not very exciting. He has a wife whom he sometimes gets along with and a 21-year-old son whom he never gets along with. One day, there was a fire that killed three people. The fire happened at the place where Poe’s son works and the people that were killed were known to bully him. Poe is trying to believe that his son had nothing to do with the fire, but he is becoming increasingly suspicious. Then, a human-like creature with glowing green eyes shows up in town and somehow knows everyone’s secrets. The creature knows the truth about Poe’s son and Poe is determined to protect him, no matter the cost.

Crighton is a demon. He works for Lucifer as a soul-catcher. He is sneaky and conniving and everything a demon is supposed to be until he meets Ariel. Ariel is a pure and beautiful angel. Their lives became connected when they were both captured by human scientists interested in studying supernatural beings. The two of them needed to rely on each other to escape and then they fell in love because they are soulmates.

Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren is a novel full of mystery and suspense that also includes romance. It was clear that the author put effort into developing the main characters because the reader always knew what they were thinking. It was interesting that the book included two stories because as the reader, I was anticipating the point when the two storylines would eventually come together. This added to the suspense of the story.

I give Soul Seeker 4 out of 4 stars because I really enjoyed reading it. The author grabbed my attention from the very beginning of the book with the secrets and lies of the Poe family. Also, I was intrigued by Crighton’s story. The second part of the book shows the evolution of Crighton’s character from an evil demon to someone with a conscience. He fell in love and learned to put someone else’s feelings before his own. There is an underlying theme of second chances in the book, which is comforting to the reader because Crighton was able to change his life for the better.

This book is best suited for readers that enjoy mysteries, suspense, and thrillers, especially people that like the angel and demon theme. I recommend an age restriction of 17 because of the use of strong language.
