The private flight from Honolulu to Seattle was just too good to pass up. If he didn’t like the parameters of the job, he would simply take a pass. Yeah— a pass.

Arnold Gold finds himself biting off more than he can chew after taking on a mysterious ransomware case in Allen Wyler’s Deadly Odds 4.0. Everything from the file encryptions to the seemingly premature firing of Devin Koch screams fishy, but does Arnold really have time to waste on logistics with his forty-eight hour deadline?

The most positive aspect of this book is Arnold himself. As the protagonist, he is witty and relatable to the reader whilst not coming off in a poor manner. Arnold provides refreshing commentary and perspective on his serious dilemmas which can also ease some of the stressful tension building in the book.

The only visible negative aspect, as there are no grammatical/spelling errors, is the out-of-touch slang that is used throughout the book. It is off putting to the reader as it does not seem to align with the protagonist’s mannerisms and also releases them from what would have been an immersive experience. The older phrases also age the characters significantly in what appears to be a book targeted towards young adult readers.

However, this flaw is not enough to give the novel any less than 4 out of 4 stars. This book as a whole would most likely interest a younger audience, and one of which that can appreciate a quick read. It is eventful and fast paced action, making a great addition to the series itself.
