The Prize written by Geoffrey M. Cooper is a scientific and medical thriller which deals with betrayal, scientific misconduct and murder.

Eric Prescott, the recipient of The Lasker Award and a senior faculty member at the Institute for Advanced Neuroscience was doing research on mice to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. His sole purpose was to receive the distinguished Nobel Prize for which he was nominated for the past five years. His hopes were shattered when he came to know about Pam who was waiting to be tenured as a full professor in the Langmere Institute. Pamela Weller, a junior faculty member at Harvard's Langmere Institute along with two postdocs George and Holly found a drug with the code 40492 that can reverse the early stages of Alzheimer's. But one of her postdocs who wanted to become first author for the paper changes the drug with another one and joins Eric Prescott to become a junior faculty member in the Institute for Advanced Neuroscience. When other researchers couldn't reproduce the results, Pam was suspected of committing fraud and her tenure evaluation stopped.
She was fired from the Institute, charged for committing fraud and murder. When her career, research and life started falling apart, her boyfriend Jake who is a private investigator is her only hope. Will Jake be able to find the truth?

The book was able to keep me entertained till the end. The character descriptions were perfectly done and the story was easy to understand. It was able to clearly portray the misdeeds happening in the scientific community. It shows how people's attitude changes with the situation. For instance, Mary O' Connor, was Pam's mentor, colleague and friend at first. But when Pam was accused of committing fraud, she started ignoring her, so as not to be involved in Pam's case. Jake's character and his attempts to find the truth were really interesting.

This fifty three chaptered book was overall a fantastic one. I couldn't find any negative points nor grammatical errors in the book. The author did a thorough research on this topic as he was able to give deep insight into each experiments and drugs.

I would give it a 4 out of 4 stars. I am giving it a full star rating as the book was professionally edited and had many interesting scenes.

The book is well suited for people who loves to read Scientific thriller.
