Duplicity by Fin C Gray
Daniel had been told by his parents on several occasions not to go into the truck park as it is not a suitable place for a young boy. This proves to be difficult for him as he goes into the park. Something horrible happens in there which leaves him traumatized and unable to forget. He keeps it a secret that will still haunt him even in his adult days. His only escape is through the use of drugs which makes him aggressive and violent towards his family whom he then decides to shut out of his life. He finds a new friend, Waqar, who is from a different part of the world and does not share the same beliefs as him. This entices him and he falls in love with Waqar but Waqar has other plans in mind. He is part of a cult and manages to convince Daniel to join in and fulfill duties in the cult as he believes it is the only way they will get to be together eternally.
Daniel is not the only one keeping secrets in the family. His father, Tom, also has a grave secret that could break the whole family apart if found out. On top of that, it seems like he made a deal that is too much of a price to pay for what he receives in return.
Fin Gray takes us through Daniel’s life as a gay disturbed boy who cannot seem to cope positively with the aspect of being gay and seems to blame everyone else for the way he is. He sets out to find his true path in life by joining a cult that seems to have him doing horrendous acts in the concept of getting him ready for his true destiny. This book had me gripped from the start as I wanted to know what Daniel’s destiny in the cult was and if he was going to carry it out. The book has a nice flow and has been well edited.
The only negative thing with Duplicity is how it portrays the Muslim people as a terrorist group.
I rate this book a 4 out of 4 because I really enjoyed it. It was captivating and the suspense created in every chapter had me turning the pages. I could feel the characters' emotions myself especially when they lost a loved one to cancer.
This book would be perfect for thriller lovers as it is packed with so much suspense from the beginning and the ending does not disappoint.
