Dave takes a trip to his uncle's property, accompanied by his friends Mitch, AI and their wives. Dave's uncle, Jerome, had been found dead in his home. Earlier suspicions were that he had died of a heart attack, but the autopsy results confirmed that he had died of arsenic poisoning. When Dave and his friends reached his uncle's property, they find it occupied by a squatter — Teddy Brewster. Teddy refuses to move out, claiming that he has squatter rights. He immediately becomes the main suspect in Jerome's murder. Things take a new twist when Brewster is also found dead, and the autopsy results reveal that he had also died of arsenic poisoning. Who is responsible for these murders, and what is their motive?

Arsenic and Old Men is a very entertaining investigative crime story authored by Glenn Ickler. The author has a firm handle on what makes a mystery novel tick. He has expertly executed the mystery in this book, and it is a thrill trying to keep pace with the fast-moving plot. I buckled up and took this unforgettable ride that left me yearning for more work from the author.

This book serves us plenty of plot twists that keep us on the edge of our seats, not knowing what will transpire next. Each piece of information opened a pathway for the next. The fact that anyone could be the killer drove up the suspense in this story. For instance, when Brewster became a suspect, It felt like the case was about to be solved. But then, there was an interesting twist that kept the story more entertaining. The author also offered loaded backstories and flashbacks that enhanced the reading experience. They facilitated comprehension and made it easy to follow the story.

This novel has a plethora of well-developed characters, which meant that it has a plethora of possible killers. It is a whodunit type of tale. The characters were realistic, and the author did a fantastic job of portraying their personalities. The interactions and the banter within Dave's friend circle made me feel like I was part of their circle.

There is nothing I disliked about this book. It is a well-plotted and fast-paced read that will keep readers flipping pages with eagerness to know what is on the next page. The editing was exceptional; I did not encounter any grammatical errors. With everything in consideration, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. It is a fun read. I recommend it to anyone who loves crime, mystery, and investigative novels. There is the use of profane language in this book; therefore, reader discretion is advised.
