Review of The Prize
Two scientists with different goals, Eric Prescott and Pamela Weller compete in discovering a cure for Alzheimer's. The Prize by Geoffrey M. Cooper is a medical thriller that lets us delve into the world of scientific research where achievements are dominant. To achieve their goals, Eric and Pamela get into a chaotic competition. Which one will weigh more and reach success? Is it going to be the person who only has eyes for fame or the one who is after a positive outcome?
I must start by saying that this book is quite exceptional. I think what made me come to that conclusion was the fact that such medical thrillers are usually hard to grasp. With this book, not only was I thrilled, but it surprised me at every turn. I am afraid that it would be too much of a spoiler, so I am having a hard time writing a review for this one.
First off, I find it interesting that each character served their purpose. I always like it when an author effectively uses the characters involved in the story and does not leave them behind just because they do not have the spotlight. The second thing that I noticed was that everything was in detail, and this helps so much for readers like me who are not in the medical field or only know a little from reading. Lastly, the twists in the book are astounding.
I am amazed at how Pam handles all the situations she faced here. As the intelligent woman that she is, I think she is a character to be admired. On the other hand, I am upset at Eric's character. He has already achieved a lot of things, and yet he is still greedy for more. Another character that adds thrill to the whole story is Holly. She has left an impression on me.
I was engrossed in reading the entire book and looking forward to how it would end. It does not disappoint because the thrill throughout is there, but I also thought the ending was quite hasty. It was kind of like I want something more to happen or something. Everything was just deep and absorbing. The emotions that this story has and made me feel are extraordinary. Some parts will also make you mad and upset. I felt how the characters feel, and the scenes made it so realistic.
I am giving this book a 4 out of 4 stars. The book is exceptionally well-edited, and that makes my reading smooth. Profanities are rare. It has an absorbing storyline and something that I am not expecting in a medical thriller.
I am recommending this book to fans of medical thriller novels. It is an extraordinary book to read. It makes me feel knowledgeable while reading, and that is a marvelous experience. It is a quick read and has a compelling story that is likable. I would undoubtedly look forward to reading more of Geoffrey M. Cooper.
