[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Silence of Children" by Chris Lewando.]
The Silence of Children by Chris Lewando is a fictional thriller story about Deirdre, who becomes involved in a battle against a pedophile network with her dad, who was formerly a pediatrician. He left his job when he got implicated in a child abduction scandal two decades ago, which forced him to change his identity.
Together with the help of a few others, they wage war against a network that threatens to harm those close to them. While working for a hotshot lawyer, she then stumbled into a conspiracy suggesting that she had been a part of the war long before she knew about it.
A commendable aspect is the story upon which the book is founded; child trafficking and exploitation. The author paints a riveting story about an ugly business rocking different parts of the world. He gives us a hero and a heroine; a father and daughter who try to combat the harm and destruction pedophile gangs bring to little children. The story looks real, and it makes one put himself in the protagonist's shoes. Would you risk your life and everything connected to you to save a life if need be?
The sacrifices, justice-driven acts, bravery, and relationship bonds severed to bring a network that has caused much pain to children down is a sensational part of the story which the author expertly painted with the good, bad, and ugly sides on display for everyone to see. This is what I liked the most about the book.
A down part of the book for me is the subplot about Leo, Janine, and Ellis' involvement with the pedophile gang. The author explained their affiliation quite alright, but the story about how involved they were with the gang was a part that wasn't adequately fleshed out. I felt there should have been more to it.
Also, Deirdre's father's involvement in the fight against the pedophile network could have been explained better. The author explained he was getting support from Suzanne as they rescued kids who were being abused from different homes and found better homes for them, and that was all. A bit of information into the organization he worked for would have been a bonus for the readers. This was what I disliked most about the story.
Despite this, I found the book to be the right blend of suspense and mystery. The author brilliantly encapsulated the storyline perfectly, resulting in a fantastic read. It was professionally edited as I could find only one grammatical error in the entire book. Nevertheless, I would rate the book, The Silence of Children by Chris Lewando a 4 out of 4 stars. This is due to the book being addicting, exciting, and intense, a tempo the author maintained throughout the book's entirety. I recommend this book to readers who love reading about thrillers, suspense, and mystery.
