Review of Call me Lawless
An ancient Hindu proverb says we are the products of our previous choices. This book best describes that. Mrs. Savannah Lincoln is the epitome of the perfect woman. A high-powered, very successful law attorney and a happily married mother. The world seems to be her oyster until she accepts an innocuous phone invitation to a San Francisco police precinct. The details of that visit to the police station turn her world upside down.
We follow a woman who has battled adversity all her life but manages to climb to the top. We are enthralled by the charismatic way she takes on her legal cases and her intimidating record. Despite all these laurels, there is more to Savannah Lincoln than meets the eye. She has a dark and dangerous secret that threatens to rip apart everything she has worked so hard to build. Will she avert this looming disaster, or will she end up a victim of her past decisions?
Call Me Lawless is not your classic whodunit crime caper; it is different, profound, and to an extent, confounding. The main character is calm, collected, and scarily efficient. The backstory is pretty well researched and written, and the suspense stays heavy from the first page to the very end. It will leave you turning non-existent pages looking for more. The attention to detail in the background stories of the peripheral characters is meticulously thought out. The flashbacks give the book an impressive level of historical context. The scene where our primary character goes toe to toe with an equally adept female legal adversary in the courthouse feels so real that you can paint a vivid picture of it.
The conversation within the book is pretty graphic and sometimes feels like the author lets the lewd talk in the sex scenes grow a life of its own. But then, this isn't a Sunday school reading classic. On the flip side, young readers are alienated as a result of the explicit sex details.
This is a murder mystery wrapped in romantic foil paper, waiting for you to tear it open. If you are on the lookout for the next crime thriller on the shelves, then this book should be on your reading list. It has a little bit of everything guaranteed to keep you glued to the pages. Beyond any doubt, if there is one thing I am particular about, you will want to sit down for the twists in this masterpiece.
KD Law delivers a thrilling piece of work with this one. With a storyline this exciting and enough subplots to keep a reader guessing, there's only one obvious score for me. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. There are a few errors but not enough to fault the book. Sit back, grab some refreshment, and immerse yourself in this crime novel. It will be well worth your time.
