Arsenic and Old Men is a great piece by Glenn Ickler. This book is a spectacular one that will make its readers tensed till they read through to the end. A professional blend of creativity with intelligence is displayed by the writer. The two old men, Dave's uncle and Teddy Brewster, are murdered by two seemingly innocent twins. What? None can suspect them to be the perpetrators because they carry out the crime as professionally as possible. What other benefits can a friend derive from the company of his colleagues? Mitchell and Al are true friends who give moral supports to their friend, Dave, when he needs them most. And what about their wives? They are very supportive and loving. No wonder they are able to get to the root of the matter, even when the police are clueless. Yes, they are smart enough to expose the killers of Dave’s uncle and Teddy Brewster.

I fell in love with this story while I read it because of the strong bond that exists between the trio: Dave, Al and Mitchell. Notably, one of the positive aspects of this book is that a true friend is known when one passes through adversity. Were it not for the support that Dave receives from his two friends, he will have remained unsuspecting towards the phishing acts of the twins, Ira and Ura, who defraud him of his uncle’s inheritance. Sadly, he may end up losing his life at the end, just like his uncle and Teddy do. Another important lesson to learn is that one should be security conscious. Dave’s uncle thinks he can win his case against the criminals, Ira and Ura, without involving the police. At the end, he loses his life after drinking the arsenic-poisoned wine. Fortunately, Dave will not make the same mistake. He involves his intimate friends, Mitchell and Al. Otherwise, he would have died alone in the hands of the same criminals that kills his uncle. Where on earth will an old man be as greedy as Teddy? He wants to have his own share of Uncle Dave’s money but the twins proves to him that they are smarter because he loses his life in the process. Another interesting part of this book is that professionalism is the trait of an expert. The report of the court’s injunctions given by Alison Riggs to Mitchell does not deviate from that of her brother, Attorney Lawrence Riggs. This proves that professional journalism involves accuracy.

As much as I enjoyed the book, it shows that immigration people, from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.), appear to be racists. To justify this claim, Martha’s dad wins the case that is charged against him by the I.C.E. people, many thanks to Linda L. Lansing for her legal support. More so, it is not always the best option when a spouse leaves his or her partner for a long while. If it is not that the wives of the three friends in the book are understanding, they may misconstrue the attitudes of their husbands to be that of some negligent fellows. This behaviour can plunge many homes into a terrible state of infidelity.

The settings of the book are in an orderly manner such that it enhances a fascinating continuity. More so, this book was exceptionally edited. Thus, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Even, the ending part of it is that of a success.

Having read through the pages of this book, I can emphatically affirm that it will educate the security departments on some proactive steps they can take to treat related criminal cases. Therefore, I recommend this book to the intelligence department. It will help them in phishing out some smart perpetrators of evil in the society.
