Review of Frozen Harvest
Mary was a young girl who lost her mother at the age of 13. She wanted to change her life around. She wanted to make something better for herself. Mary realizes too late that she gets mixed up with the wrong people. Police at that time were unable to solve the case of what happened.
A detective receives a letter in the mail that brings the event to light again 90 years later. Initially, Joel feels as if it's a waste of time to explore this case again. His mind is changed when some digging shows that there was foul play in the initial investigation. Mary's ghost haunts the dreams of the detective as well as other characters in the story. These nightmares urge them to discover her secrets. Will Mary's murder be solved? Will her ghost finally get to rest?
Frozen Harvest by Joseph Benedict bounces between two time periods as detective Joel tries to solve this 90-year-old cold case. The story takes place in a small frozen Minnesota town. Through the story, Benedict includes the town's icy history and culture. These facts help the detective in solving the case. The reader follows through two sides of the story. One, where Benedict tells Mary's story of how she died. The other, where detective Joel attempts to solve this case and bring peace to Mary's ghost. The two worlds collide as Joel learns about the town's history and Mary's past.
I enjoyed this book. The story keeps the reader on the edge of their seat even until the very end with unexpected twists. The book is fast-paced with well-developed characters. I enjoyed watching detective Joel's thought process as he worked to solve the case. I also liked the details provided about Mary's past. Reading the events unfolding from when she was alive provided an insightful perspective in this story. It created a stronger connection to her character.
There was nothing that I disliked about this book. This book is an easy read with few errors. The characters were well developed, and the details provided made for smooth transitions through the story. The author did not include unnecessary information, and explanations helped expand my understanding of the unfolding events. Therefore I have to give it 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book for adult readers who enjoy a fast-paced mystery. This book is thought-provoking and is for anyone who likes unpredictable stories.
