Review of Money Faucet
A hard-working, opportunist, Clint Kennedy, whom just recently relocated to Merida, Mexico is the protagonist in this crime/mystery novel. The story begins with a phone call from Jack, his best friend, whom he grew up with at Homestead, Florida. Jack calls Clint concerning his father, David Cohen's recent stroke attack. David Cohen was Jack's father and he had always played a father and a mentor's role in Clint's life since his father's death. David was able to care for them all because he was the president and chairman of the board of the American bank. Unfortunately, just like any business, the bank went through a difficult period and the only way to save it and keep the money flowing was to involve Mexican drug lords and drug laundry money.
Have you ever thought of how one incident could change your whole life? In Clint's life it was always phone calls. Clint went to Miami to check on David immediately after getting Jack's call. While in Miami he got another call, and he was informed that Eddie is in his deathbed. In Clint's words Eddie used to be one of the best employees he's had and he saw him as a brother. Additionally, he used to support Eddie because he could relate to his life story, since they both lost their parents at a young age. Because Clint had promised Eddie to be he's grandfather's legal guardian if he was to die first, now he was obliged to keep his word. Even with a greedy lawyer going after the old man's inheritance. How far will Clint go to protect Eddie's wealth?
This novel reached it's climax when Clint was overwhelmed with anxiety. He was greatly burdened with the responsibility he had as a legal guardian of Eddie's grandfather; his romantic relationships that never last for a longer period; and a few Mexican drug lords getting assassinated.
There's a great deal of positive aspects on Money Faucet by Joe Calderwood. What stood out for me was the writing style that Joe Calderwood used in this crime filled novel. The author bluntly and unapologetically stated his principles and that was one aspect that drew me to appreciate the content and kept me indulged in this treat. Moreover the author was appropriately informative; the plot and character development was remarkably authentic. I got to explore a variety of themes while reading: loyalty, the importance of family, friendship and death.
The only factor I disliked about the book was the amount of profanity used. Which is something that wouldn't really bother some readers. The author professionally edited the book and it was well put together. Therefore I rate (Money Faucet) 4 out of 4 stars. This novel doesn't contain explicit sex scenes, but I wouldn't recommend it to younger readers and people that cringe whenever they hear vulgar words. I know crime novel lovers will appreciate this one.
