Plantation of Bones by Lou Dischler tells the story of a family that was considered weird to others. The Le Blanc was a rich family until several incidents dragged them into a hard life. This book consists of 98 chapters, which brings the readers to the weirdness that we never thought.

This book focuses on three characters of siblings, Delilah, Paulie, and Calvin. Delilah is the first child and the daughter of Bill Henry and June. She is a beautiful girl with blonde hair and loves to sing. However, something terrible happened, and she needed to quit her dream to be a singer before it even started. Her life turned upside down when she was pregnant with her beloved boyfriend, Tony. Meanwhile, Paulie, a twelve-year-old boy, is always struggling with adulthood, as he is growing up to be a man. His interests in romantic relationships brought him to Sylvania, the daughter of a mayor in Louisiana. He needs to compete with his friend, Harry to catch the girl's attention without knowing her true personality. On the other hand, Cal, who was 5 years old, needs to endure a hard life due to his differences. The hardship of the Le Blancs makes June take a drastic decision to sell Cal to a carnival. Cal differences drag people away. Luckily, he escaped, and now he was captured by two kidnappers. The kidnapping changed everything and made everything worse. What truly happened to the Le Blanc family? Did Cal manage to get home safely?

I found the plot quite interesting. It makes me think out of logic. The differences and weirdness in Cal's character are something new to me. Its mystery attracts me to dig more into the truth of the Le Blancs.

Before you choose this book, please be aware of the profane and vulgar words. There were many intimate scenes and some of them were explained almost in detail. Honestly, it distracts me a bit. Other than that, the author makes me curious about Cal whether he is a robot, a dog, or a boy. I spotted only one misspelled mistake. Therefore, I assumed that this book was professionally edited.

Overall, I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The plot is great. The weaknesses do not affect my rating on this book. I was so attracted to know about the family. It has its own mystery that makes me curious to continue reading each of the chapters. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading mystery novels.
