Review of E M P Honeymoon
Police officer Sgt. Tom Turbulo is enjoying a beautiful honeymoon in tropical Honduras along with his new wife, Kelly. They couldn’t ask for a better vacation in their beachfront bungalow. But all is not as it seems in the sleepy little island town as Kelly unwittingly stumbles onto a horrifying plot to wipe out most of North America’s power grid by a group of North Korean terrorists. Kelly wastes no time calling her brother Senator Mike McBride in D.C. for help. Mike quickly sends a pair of investigators to check things out, and Tom and Kelly join forces with the two private investigators and a CIA agent to uncover the plot and stop the terrorists.
E M P Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer is a captivating mystery novel full of heart-stopping action, dastardly terrorist plots, and a touch of romance on the side. The author did an excellent job of presenting the events from the perspective of the honeymooners in Honduras, the U.S. leaders attempting to thwart the attack, and even the North Korean leaders and terrorist team.
I enjoyed this book immensely and found it difficult to put down. The main characters are relatable and presented well as everyday, ordinary people who stumble onto something extraordinary and are inadvertently put into the position of saving the world. There was also some added humor, which gave the plot a layer of lightheartedness that I liked.
There was very little to dislike about E M P Honeymoon. However, I did find a few instances to be a bit unbelievable and unlikely. For example, in the opening chapter, Kelly stumbles onto the terrorists’ secret lab and is briefly captured. She manages to escape and call her husband. Yet when she returns to their hotel, the capture and escape are hardly mentioned again, and Tom seems unconcerned. I find it hard to believe that a honeymooning couple would not be terrified by such an experience.
E M P Honeymoon contained very few errors, demonstrating careful editing. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy a good mystery adventure story. I enthusiastically give this book four out of four stars. Despite the few minor unlikely instances in the plot that I previously mentioned, I enjoyed E M P Honeymoon and did not feel they took away from the overall enjoyment of the story. A few minor occurrences of borderline profanity, as well as some minor references to adult situations, make this book more suitable for young adults and older.
