What would you do if you received a notification stating you only had ten days to live? Would you get your affairs in order and say your goodbyes to family and friends, or would you go on a killing spree murdering anyone who has ever made you angry? Van Fleisher’s Final Notice has it all and will have the reader gripping their seat as they discover how each character reacts to receiving their final notice.

The story starts with Vince Fuller, one of the main characters, returning to his home after he has been out shopping for the perfect coffee maker. Vince lives with his wife, Trudi, and their dog, Miles. Vince and Trudi are retired and spend most of their days running errands or visiting with their friends. Trudi is in the den working on writing a new folk song when Vince returns home. Vince is acting suspicious and has dirt all over his hands. He races to the bathroom to clean up before letting his wife see him. Once he is presentable, he heads to the den to greet Trudi. As their evening progresses, they relax in front of the television, watching the evening news. The news reporter is discussing the increase in random attacks against the elderly. The news reporter shares information about a program that the NRA has established that targets the elderly. This program is an attempt to get them to purchase guns for their protection. Vince and Trudi are concerned with their safety, so they start discussing guns and possibly purchasing one for their safety.

Final Notice by Van Fleisher is a thrilling novel with an original concept. I have never read any other story like Final Notice before, and I have read many books. Fleisher does a great job combining humor, suspense, murder, and romance into the story. The characters that Fleisher created are likable and a joy to read. The interactions between the characters reveal a lot about human nature and how things are in the world today.

There wasn’t much I didn’t like about the book. It was original, suspenseful, unpredictable, and fascinating to read. I was impressed with the original concept of Final Notice. Fleisher did a brilliant job in his writing, making the book a great page-turner. I enjoyed reading how the characters acted upon receiving their final notice. There were many surprises in Final Notice that had me guessing what would happen next. It transitioned around from one character’s reaction to another. However, Fleisher mastered the transition so that it wasn’t hard to follow.

Final Notice appears to be professionally edited with no errors. Therefore, I am happy to rate Final Notice 4 stars out of 4. I kept turning the pages because I was eager to see how the characters would react to their final notice. There was some profanity use, but it helped lend to the mood of the scenes. Final Notice contains violence and racial disputes that might be difficult to read. I recommend this book for young adults. However, any reader that loves to read suspense and thriller novels would enjoy Final Notice.
