Review of Duplicity
Bad decisions, fear, and miscommunication can destroy what seems to be a perfect family from the inside, as what happens to Tom McIntyre and his family. Duplicity author, Fin C.Gray wrote a suspenseful fast-moving story that pulled out my curiosity from the first page and left me speechless when I finally put the book down. The story goes back and forth between the present and past but the author really did an outstanding job in building the story, as the past is designed to put light and provide an understanding for the main plot so readers will be able to follow the story easily.
The McIntyre family is what you can call a perfect picture of a family, at least on the outside. Tom McIntyre married the love of his life Alison and together they have two children, Daniel and Jenny. They lived in a suburban area in England where Tom tried to provide for his family and Alison being a loving mother and wife, create an important and irreplaceable existence in the family. Things start to take a wrong turn when Tom’s career goes downhill and his debt kept piling up, his unique preferences that even Alison did not know, and Daniel’s secret that he kept since childhood and consequently causing trauma that lasts all his life. Everything keeps boiling up until a certain tragedy brings light to all in the most unwanted times, causing distress and breaking bonds of trust and love in the family. Can every consequence be mended along with the fractured bond to the way it was? The consequences that drag and affect the lives of not only the McIntyre family but those of strangers as well.
The story highlight on so many tragedies that can happen in real life, and some of which we can relate to. The book is a psychological crime thriller, the thing most appeal to me from this book is that it shows that communication and honesty is a very important aspect in life especially to own family. The characters are so well written, so much that I feel sympathy and empathy for some characters, dislike one and like another but truly all the characters leave an impression in their own way. The story is fast-paced, brilliantly and neatly written and amazing characters development throughout the story. I found myself reading until late at night through quarantine time just to find out what happens next.
Duplicity by Fin C.Gray is a fantastic book, so I am delighted to give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The focus of the story in which seems like trivial family problems at first, but Gray brilliant imagination turns the plot into something more intense without losing the touch of reality. The book is virtually well-edited as I do not find any errors. The past part of the story completely backs up the present part of the story, and nevertheless, it is so well written I do not find difficulties in following the story.
I would highly recommend this book to mature readers that are looking for suspense, psychological, and unique crime thriller. However, I do not recommend this book to young readers or those who are new to the psychological crime thriller genre as the book contain sexual abuse, animal cruelty, gore, and profanity. Moreover, the amount of violence and terrorism in this book might not be suitable for some readers. But all in all, this book is a must-read, if you are one of those mature readers that are fine with all the above mentioned and have not read this book yet, then grab it now!
