Review of E M P Honeymoon
E M P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom tell a story of good waging war against evil. It starts with a scene showing Senator McBride on the phone with a frantic woman on the other end. That woman turned out to be his sister. He is left wondering what could be wrong and how exactly he can help her. Fast forward to a couple of scenes later, when Kelly recounts how she found out that a pigsty shop was a cover for some terrorists who were probably planning on attacking America. She, her husband, and all those in power must find a way to stop these terrorists from wreaking havoc on their beloved country and sending them back to the stone age (well, not literally). But the question is, will they be able to stop this since these terrorists have a brilliant leader who has analyzed every single outcome of their attack and the response of the USA?
One positive point that I saw in E M P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom, a novel written by Dorothy May Mercer, is the details that the author gave about everything that she wrote about. She gave backstories to most of the characters to make understanding them and their actions very easy. She explained events in so much detail too. An example is when she talked about the spiders that crawled on the hostile satellite that was in orbit.
What I liked most or more than any other thing in the book, were the subplots given about shadow characters in the novel. One such example is the interview that explained how much damage an EMP can have on the country upon which it is unleashed. It may not be the main plot that was referred to many times, but it helped me understand the gravity of the danger that the USA was in and how much power these terrorists had.
What I liked the least about the book was how stale the romance between Tom and Kelly, the main characters of the novel, was. For a couple who claim to love each other more than life, their relationship seems to lack the depth that couples like that should have. One example that showed this was when the senator called Tom to tell him that Kelly sounded like she was in danger when he was on a boat ride. I expected him to turn the boat around and run to his wife, even though she called to reassure him that all was well. For the very reason that she called her brother to express fear would make me know that all was not well. I was so frustrated with their relationship.
Despite hating the way their relationship was, it is not a reason for me to not give this book a perfect rating. For one, I want to believe that relationships like this exist in the real world. So I rate it 4 out of 4 stars. Another reason for this rating is the way the author (Dorothy May Mercer) edited the book exceptionally well. Despite being over 100 pages long, I didn't see any errors in the book. Some other people may disagree, but I am just saying what I saw and didn't see. I highly recommend this book to people that desire a book that mixes stories of romance with stories of terrorists that are planning on attacking a country that has wronged them in no way.
