In 1885, Scottish-born Seth and Sadie Hawks immigrated to the United States of America to chase the elusive American dream. They had big plans for their future and believed that Murky Marsh was the place to be if they were to achieve any of those plans. Upon arriving in Murky Marsh, the couple soon learned that the Pyke brothers ran the show in this little town. They terrorized and tortured residents and lined their pockets in devious ways. Seth had a confrontation with one brother and turned out dead shortly thereafter. Sadie vowed to avenge her husband’s death.

As Sadie gathered information about these brothers, she learned that the ruthless brothers plan on stripping her of her assets and prostitute her as they do with other widows of Murky Marsh. To evade this bleak future, Sadie devised a plan to kill these influential Pyke brothers. With nobody to lean on for support, find out how Sadie planned to kill the brothers and whether she succeeded by reading Murder at Murky Marsh by Claude Peterson Jr.

Readers who enjoy crime and horror thrillers will not be disappointed in this novel. Claude has managed to deliver a storyline that is chilling and riveting. The scandals of small-town Murky Marsh will keep the reader turning the pages. The storyline was well executed with plenty of mystery and action to keep the reader guessing, hoping, and rooting for several characters. From the very first chapters, the novel is intriguing and action-packed.

The novel is narrated from various perspectives - the third and first-person perspectives. The blend of perspectives gives the reader a broader view and an opportunity to get into the mind of certain characters. Dialogues between the characters were colorful, diverse, and fascinating. I can safely say that my favorite parts of the novel were the dialogues between the characters.

My least favorite aspects of the novel were the narrator’s comments. There were instances wherein the narrator would interject, mid-scene, to explain a scene. I found these comments and summaries unnecessary.

My overall rating of the novel is 2 out of 4 stars. There are several errors in the book that warrant the deduction of a star. I have withheld the second star because of the narrator’s interjections and mid-scene commentary.

The book covers themes of violence, murder, and sexual violation. The book also contains profane terms. For these reasons, I recommend the book to mature audiences. Readers who enjoy crime thrillers with strong female protagonists will revel in this novel.

I cant deny that this book seems very interesting. However the intrusion of the author mid sentence and numerous errors have deterred me from reading this. Thank you for a honest and insightful review my friend! :D

I'm sorry to learn that such an engaging book has the issues from the narrative point of view. Otherwise, it sounds very promising! :) Thank you for a great review!

The book is quite intriguing. I would love to know if Seth and Sadie succeeded in their strife against the Pyke brothers. Terrorism is a thing that affect the stability of humanity. Thanks for your review.

This is interesting. I hope Sadie pulled through, else it'll be just sad for her. The Puke brothers are definitely up to no good. Thank you for your review.

The storyline is quite strong and I love the women but the negative aspects were unmissable.
