Written by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison, Demon Freaks is a comic horror story that takes place in an American city, where things are not what they seem to be. And even McDonald’s is involved in a supernatural plot.
Twins Ron and Bing Slaughter have only one day left until they have to ace their SATs. This seemed to be the only problem for them and their friends, Kaitlyn and Meat. But things take a wild turn when they find out that evil forces are at work in this world. Ron and Bing have to fight, together, evil old golfers, to stop demons from being summoned and to save their friends’ lives, all by the next morning. The teenagers discover a whole organization, composed of trained commandos, which fights evil, dark creatures and helps to maintain world peace.
The story was written in simple, clear language. What I honestly enjoyed about this book was how easy it was to read. The vocabulary was simple, but it made the story captivating. Also, the inserted jokes and funny comments made by the narrator helped to relieve tension.
Furthermore, the plot of the story is very thrilling and supernatural. There are a lot of turns of events that will keep the reader on edge. The author introduced even a reference to The Lord of the Rings books, but there is an evil dagger instead of a mind-controlling ring. The story has a lot of action, with military-trained commandos shooting flesh-eating monsters and demons destroying everything in their way.
I could not find anything bad about this book. It has been an easy, exciting reading, that has made the time pass a lot faster.
I would give Demon Freaks 4 out of 4 stars. The book was very well written, with close to no grammar mistakes. I would recommend it to all horror enthusiasts, young adults, and adults. It would not be suitable for children as it has some dark, gory, detailed episodes.
