Review of E M P Honeymoon
Author Dorothy May Mercer has several books under her belt. She takes from her McBride action series, expands Senator McBride's family, and includes his baby sister Kelly. While on their honeymoon, Kelly stumbles onto a plot to put the USA back into the dark ages. Kelly's new husband, Tom Turbulo, a police sergeant in the CCPD, cannot help but get involved with the investigation. Senator McBride is worried about his sister, so his bodyguard and secretary Cynthia Patterson send two of her best agents, Sharon and Agatha, down to Honduras to keep his sister safe. Kelly, Tom, Sharon, Agatha, and a handsome CIA agent Steve Spalding go on an adventure to solve the Korean connection to the large crates stored behind the store that started Kelly on this road. Did Kelly stumble onto a terrorist plot? How does the awkward young Su-jin fit into the grand scheme of things? Steve quickly uncovers that Su-jin is not an American, and Steve is sure she is somehow involved with Kelly and Tom. The author has many characters that have their secrets and motivations. Will the terrorist succeed before Kelly and Tom's team solve the clues to stop them?
EMP Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom has a great prelude that grabs the reader's attention. Dorothy Mercer drops the reader straight into a situation where Kelly called her brother, and the questions start, who were they? What are they planning that is so terrible? Dorothy Mercer's style of writing is smooth and easy to follow. Her characters develop along with the storyline, and she reveals more about each one as the story evolves. Though many of her characters are from her previous books, the story and the characters stand alone quite well. The author's research into solar flares and how EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) works help the believability of the story.
The only negative comment would be that her main characters had too many helpful friends. Senator McBride is a big brother, with a bodyguard who happens to have an entourage of agents and a husband who is in the Air Force, plus a friend in the CIA. Thus, the story has little drama, but it was still fun to read.
This reader happily gave this book a 4 out of 4 stars as it was fun to read and well written and well-edited. The back of the book had listed the characters and chapters that they appeared. The author's research sources were quite interesting to review.
This reader recommends this book for all readers who want to have a fun read without concentrating too hard on the clues. There is foul language in the story. It is kept to a minimum and does fit into the story and its characters.
