Review of The Arm and the Fall
Danny “the Arm” Wilcox, the star quarterback of the St. Louis Rivermen, dies when he falls from the roof of the JR Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, where the team is staying before the championship game. As a sports announcer, Jerry Cushing is a local TV legend and has covered all St. Louis Rivermen games for 30 years. Preliminary reports on Danny’s death were that he committed suicide. Fifty-year-old Detective Rockie Suarez has lived her entire life in Los Angeles. Billy Joe Baker is the coroner who works the case. The backup quarterback, Mike Guilding, will now start in the championship game. The team’s owner, Charles MacNamara, had recruited Mike and was anxious for him to win a game. Rockie and Jerry do not believe Danny killed himself because he had everything going for him. They team up to investigate his mysterious death. Did Danny kill himself? If not, who killed the star quarterback that everyone loved? Read The Arm and the Fall by Gary Tanguay to follow Rockie and Jerry’s investigation in this crime thriller.
Gary Tanguay kept my interest in this thrilling book from beginning to end. His development of the characters was spot-on, and I felt I was a part of the story and knew every one of the characters on a personal level. Although some content is gory, it is also humorous. For example, Rockie and Jerry get into a tug of war with a severed arm. I could easily visualize this and found it hilarious. Every page of this book is full of action and kept me guessing whether Danny’s death was a suicide or not. There are a lot of characters in this book, and Gary Tanguay’s writing style made it easy for me to keep track of them.
The only negative aspect of the book is the editing. The book is in dire need of being edited by a professional editor. The narrative contains missing words, missing punctuation, and wrong words. One example of incorrect word usage is “by” for “buy.” Although these errors were irritating, they did not distract from my reading enjoyment.
However, the number of errors prevents me from giving this book a perfect score. I recommend that Gary Tanguay have this book edited by a professional editor. As it is, I can only award this thrilling novel 3 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to readers over 18 years of age who enjoy crime thrillers and romances. This book is inappropriate for young or sensitive readers because of the non-borderline profanity, gory content, and erotic sexual content.

but I think a good, exciting plot would make up for that.
