Review of Confessions
Abuse in any form is often a difficult subject to discuss, especially when it involves sexual and physical abuse. In Confessions: From Domestic Violence Victims to Victors in Christ by Karen R. Lewis, readers experience the emotional stories of fifteen survivors. At 36 Kindle edition pages, this one is easily read in a single sitting, though some of the stories are graphic and difficult to read. Due to the nature of the content, it's necessary to provide a reader's discretion warning as the stories contain mention of sexual abuse, childhood trauma, drug and alcohol abuse, and physical violence.
The opening victim's story was exceptionally troubling to read, as the young woman shares the trauma she experienced beginning at a young age from sexual abuse. The failures of adults and prominent figures in her life to stand up for her against the abuse highlighted the importance of awareness and the significance of being aware of the harmful impacts that these troubling encounters can have.
Through each of the fifteen victim stories, these brave individuals are sharing their stories in hopes of bringing awareness to the abuse to help others avoid the possibility of ending up in similar situations. Along with sharing the experiences, the author provides resources for those who need help through The Angel House. Author Karen Lewis founded The Angel House after losing her pregnant daughter to domestic violence and has dedicated her life to helping as many victims as possible.
The fifteen stories were difficult to read, especially knowing that the number of victims who shared their stories for the purpose of the book is only a tiny portion in comparison to the total number of victims who are still struggling with abuse. The stories were exceptionally well-written and professionally edited, leaving no errors to be found while reading.
I'm honored to share a rating of 4 out of 4 stars for Confessions: From Domestic Violence Victims to Victors in Christ. These stories share the raw experiences of victims while also emphasizing the significance that The Angel House had on their roads to recovery. The author's dedication to providing help is admirable and her life-long commitment is shown through the stories that her clients have shared. While she offers emotional support, prayer, and advice to victims, the main goal of Karen Lewis is to get these victims to safety, either by bus, train, or plane. The underground organization runs on the monetary donations needed to purchase tickets to a safe location for victims and their children.
