Hattie is a woman who was lonely during her life. After being deserted by her fiancée for another woman, she vows to spend her life alone and cut off from everyone. She arrives at a mansion with no understanding of who the people are or why she's there. That is until she is escorted to visit Vamelda. Vamelda is an intriguing woman with an even more fascinating career; she is a medium. Hattie isn't enamored of those who practice the occult until she discovers something about herself; she's dead.

Hattie Vavaseur is a murder mystery with paranormal undertones. The majority of the individuals in the novel are no longer alive, and the tale takes place on another plane of reality. Hattie is determined to learn about her past because she has no memories of it. With the assistance of her nephew, she and her medium friend, Vamelda, attempt to put together her life. For the most part, I felt like I was reading a regular novel rather than one with supernatural elements. The characters acted normally; they ate, slept, drove automobiles, and otherwise exhibited the qualities of live creatures. M. Rebecca Wildsmith, the author, made the tale even more enthralling by not revealing the name of the mysterious lord of the home or how he was tied to the story.

This book told three separate storylines, and they all came together to make for an engaging read. The murder of Mr. Carrington, the investigation into Hattie's history, and, most importantly, the love story between Hattie and a man from her past. I was quite impressed with how the author developed the tale into a traditional cozy mystery. The investigations were peppered with just enough hints to keep the reader intrigued. It was very astounding how everything suddenly knotted up together at the end, demonstrating that everything in the book was not random but linked in some manner.

The author followed all of the tips on writing an excellent mystery novel. The characters, detective, clues, and suspense make for an intriguing book. As a result, I rate the book a 4 out of 4 stars . This was a refreshing variation from the usual mysteries, but it didn't veer too far from the norm. The theme of love triumphing above everything did not disappoint. It also allows the reader to invest in the characters and believe that good always triumphs over evil.

I would recommend this to everyone with an affinity for fantasy, mysteries, and a good romance. This book doesn’t disappoint.
