For my book review, I have read and thoroughly analyzed Darrell Case’s book named River of Fire. A story of love, faith and hardships, this book will leave you wanting a sequel. The Christian Fiction story that takes place in the 1880s follows Victoria Winters, a young school teacher, who has been wrongly accused of beating one of her students. She is abruptly fired and tossed away in jail, then later threatened out of town. While on the train to Chicago she meets Adam Wakefield, a young minister, on his way to pastor the largest church in Chicago. The two form a loving bond while exchanging stories of their past.

Unaware of the murders’ plans for him, Adam tries to bring change to this new church for the better. Victoria and Adam have no idea of the horrible events to come. Their faith in God keeps them balanced as they proceed into the forthcoming dangerous events. While reading this book I felt mixed reactions. From the beginning I was immensely interested in the ending of the story. However, I questioned the changed points of view throughout the chapters. Although, it did become apparent that the changed views did heighten the suspense the reader felt, especially during the ending.

This was a fairly short book, I realized after finishing it in one sitting. However, the author captures good, relatable problems and topics that we see and hear about every day. I did find some grammatical errors while reading the book but none were too outstanding. For example page twenty three paragraph three line four…the sentence is finished but there is no period. Also on page seventy two, paragraph three, line two: “He held out a hand but in the darkness but she could not see his face,” which clearly has an added “but”. Other than that, I found the book to be easily understood.

One of the main reasons, I enjoyed the book so much is because the author added many twists that I did not see coming. This is a great way to capture and engross the reader which is exactly how I felt while reading the climax.

I would give this story a solid 4 out of 4 stars. It is such a sweet and moving Christian story. I recommend it to all those looking for a short, inspiring story. This definitely meets and exceeds those criteria.
