[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "A Mother's Blood" by Ernie Zibert.]
After inventing an implant that eliminates gynecological cancers in women, Professor Meryl Silverberg earned the admiration and applause of St. Vincent’s Hospital staff, the public, and even the President of the United States of America. She is widely celebrated as she performs her one-millionth implant procedure. However, Meryl can hardly bask in her achievements as a secret ominously looms over her and her partner, Dr. John Brennan.
On the other hand, Dr. Kiefer Silverberg is proud of his mother’s accomplishments and desperately wants to work with her team, but she repeatedly denies his request, to his dismay. Oblivious of the reason behind Meryl’s refusal, Kiefer vents his frustration on his mother, causing a strain on their relationship. Kiefer and his wife, Lucy (a carrier of the implant), battle Lucy’s inability to conceive. Does Lucy’s inability to bear children have anything to do with the implant? As he searches for answers, he uncovers a web of conspiracy emanating from the echelons of power that endangers his life and that of everyone around him.
A Mother’s Blood by Ernie Zibert is a futuristic medical thriller that contains themes of murder, deception, love, conspiracy, revenge, and sacrifice. The author tells his story using the third-person narrative, giving the reader a holistic view of the narrative. This book is divided into eight titled chapters. Zibert starts telling the tale by narrating the present predicament of Kiefer and then flashes back to two years before, where it all began. The author expertly builds the suspense thereon, leading to a climactic end.
The author caught my attention from the first page and held it through to the last page. I was left wondering what would happen next at every point. I wondered what the closely-guarded secret surrounding the implant might be and whether Kiefer would uncover the treacherous plot with his life and the lives of his loved ones. I love the creativity the author put into developing the plot of this story. Not only was the story set in the year 2030, but the author also depicted the possible medical and technological advancements reflective of the time used – this was both remarkable and impressive for me. There is absolutely nothing I dislike about this book.
This book is professionally edited; I only found one grammatical error. I believe that this book will particularly appeal to lovers of fast-paced thrillers and those in the medical field. A Mother’s Blood by Ernie Zibert is an entertaining, enlightening, suspense-filled book written with advanced grammatical expressions and medical terminologies. Although I am not in the medical field, I could still understand and enjoy the story. Therefore, I am rating the book 4 out of 4 stars.
