Demon Freaks by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is an action-packed YA horror comedy that tells the story of twins, Bing and Ron Slaughter, and their quest to save their friends. From evil golfers to monsters to a plot to summon a demon, they'll have to find a way to survive and keep their friends from being sacrificed. At least long enough to complete their SATs in the morning.

While the summary for this novel might sound like a fever dream, the book itself was clear and very easy to understand. Events and character motivations were all explained very well even when I hadn't expected them to be. Somehow, this novel made evil golfers and demons in the same room make sense. Instead of it feeling like a fever dream, it felt like I was on an exciting and dangerous adventure. Even when surprising things were revealed, it all made sense because of the amazing foreshadowing. It honestly reminded me strongly of a comic and I couldn't help but imagine it like that while reading.

From the beginning, this novel hit me with wave after wave of suspense. Throughout it all, I was thinking about what would happen next. How were Bing and Ron going to survive this? How would they defeat this monster? Where are their friends? How were they going to pass their SATs when they haven't even studied yet?!

Even then, it was the characterization, I'd say, that was the best part of this novel. Each character had their own personality and sense of humor. From Kaitlyn's catchphrase to the twins adamantly trying their best to not look alike, there wasn't a single character that fell flat. Even the relationships between all these characters felt real. How they interacted felt like real friends that care about each other. Bing and Ron's brotherly relationship was especially heartwarming to see.

Lastly, I loved how everything was tied up. There were so many plot points that I wasn't sure how certain things came in but the author did a wonderful job in making sure there were no loose ends.

There isn't a single negative aspect I could point out for this novel. It just might be my new favorite.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Everything about it was great and it was exceptionally well edited.

I recommend this novel for those who are interested in books that include supernatural elements with a dose of comedy.
