Chief Among Us by L. A Noble is a fascinating mystery novel, and I sincerely cannot shut up about it. A thrill comes with reading books based on solving mysteries, and I continually felt it while reading this book. Chief Among Us follows Maria, Chief Financial Officer at Central Illinois Insurance Company. Maria arrives at work on a Monday morning and is questioned by Jeffrey Clinton, Vice President of Operations, about a picture of her sent to him by another employee named Tom.

Jeffrey gets the position of the CEO and fires Maria, who had been his competition for the post. Fifty-one days after Maria was fired, she received a call from Tiffany, a former colleague, about a fight at work concerning employees' payroll. Maria finds the situation amusing until she learns that her son, Nate, is a suspect. She enlists the help of her brother-in-law, Max, to clear her son's name. However, it may seem like the first situation is nothing compared to the following events.

This book deserves a perfect rating, so I rate it four out of four stars. It was a fantastic blend of themes and stories, and it was professionally edited because I found only a few errors while reading the book. I found no competent reason to deduct any star from my rating.

I loved a lot of things about this book. First, I enjoyed the mystery. If you are a lover of mystery books, you will discover some books that you can accurately predict the culprit; in this instance, it is either the author did a great job, or I am just horrible at solving mysteries. I can assure you that it is the former. At various times, I thought I had it figured out; I could not have imagined that almost all my guesses were wrong. New motives, opportunities, and alibis kept popping up at different points, and I kept my eyes glued to the book to uncover the mystery. The suspense in the book was enthralling. There was a perfect blend of crime, murder, mystery, and tension; I congratulate the author on a job well done.

I loved how the author provided background stories on almost all the characters introduced in the book; this helped my understanding of their behaviors in the book. The book was well written and detailed for easy comprehension. The author employed the use of dramatic irony in the novel. Combined with the omniscient point of view, I don't think the story could have been told from a better angle. Fascinating additions to the positive aspects were the themes of love and jealousy. I enjoyed reading about love and jealousy amongst older individuals. Honestly, I hadn't imagined what love felt like between more senior individuals, but apparently, you still feel butterflies in your stomach. I haven't read another book with a good mixture of my favorite themes in novels, and I couldn't find anything to dislike about the novel.

I recommend this book to lovers of books centered on crime and mystery and anyone who is looking for an exciting day's read.

Mystery novels are just the thing for me. I had to smile when reading that it starts with a dispute over payroll, that is very unusual. I like the angle.

This is an interesting crime mystery thriller novel highlighting work-place mystery, unique characterizations, suspicion, and clearing someone's name. The book is temporarily discounted on Amazon Kindle and has a well-written OnlineBookClub review. Congrats on the BOTD.
