Stealing the money was supposed to be simple. Then Andy watched as Sarah stabbed Bridget. As Bridget lay bleeding on the ground in the parking lot, all she could do was reflect on how she ended up in this situation in the first place. How did her life come to this? How did everything get so screwed up? She had been thinking about this lately as she began writing a book about her family. She had shown the book to Andy moments before she was stabbed. He had cared enough to read the beginning of her story, but would he care enough to come back to help her?

The Sky Above by Kim Idol is a book about Bridget, a girl who was always destined to fall through the cracks. It is the story of the people in her life and the choices they made, and how those choices lead to moments that could change them forever.

The characters in this story were excellent. Each character was well developed and had a detailed backstory. The story alternated between the night that Bridget was stabbed and previous moments in the characters' lives. It was easy to see how past events and the relationship each character had with their family shaped them into who they were.

As much as I enjoyed the characters in this story, several factors kept me from enjoying this book. First of all, the book was not professionally edited. In addition to the numerous grammatical errors and typos, there were lots of run-on sentences and many sentences that could have benefited from using commas. This may have been a style choice on the part of the author, but I found the writing and sentence structure unnatural. I also found the layout of the story confusing. When the story took place in the past, there was no indication of when the events occurred relative to other events in the story. Also, when discussing family history, the author would bombard the reader with generations of history all at once. These family histories would often jump between different characters, moving forward and backward in time multiple times within the same paragraph. I frequently had to reread several pages to figure out which character the author was talking about.

While the plot and characters in this book were excellent, the writing style and confusing structure detracted from the story. For these reasons, I would give this book a rating of 2 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to mature readers who enjoy reading books about flawed characters and antiheroes.

Sometimes, we exaggerate the concept of destiny. Sometimes, it's just a compilation of choices made. Might that be the same case for Bridget?

This seems like a novel with great potential let down by its execution. A professional editor might help the author a lot in revising this book to make the narrative flow and with proofreading. Thank you for your honest review!
