Review of E M P Honeymoon
Dorothy May Mercer's EMP Honeymoon is a work that depicts valor, heroism, love, and the act of fighting for one's nation at all costs. Colonel Rhee Su-Jin and her commander, Dear Leader, were planning a terrible terrorist strike on US soil in Honduras. They had no intention of blowing up a city, but rather of attacking US satellites in space. The destruction of the satellites would result in a nationwide blackout in the United States. Tom and Kelly, a newlywed couple, were on their honeymoon in Honduras at the time this cell of terrorists planned this attack. Kelly was strolling across town when she came across a store across the street. She intended to visit the shop and purchase some toys. She did note, though, that the store was empty. What could cause a shop in the heart of the city to be so deserted? She had a thought. She was wandering through the store when she came into a room crowded with monitors and screens. So, what exactly did she learn? Breaking up a terrorist plot with a small group of American civilians, led by an attractive CIA agent, is a great stretch of the imagination.
In all honesty, I don't think the people involved could have done it. It would necessitate collaboration and information sharing among numerous government departments, as well as the sharing of top-secret classified information with civilians who lack security clearance. It was far too simple for Kelly and Steve to enter into the computer network and copy data. We must give credit to the terrorists for having superior security. However, if you go with the flow of the story, it's a lot of fun! Kelly and Tom were overly eager to put themselves in potentially life-threatening circumstances while on vacation as civilians.
One of my worst nightmares is being gravely injured in a third-world nation and waking up in a hospital with people standing over me speaking Spanish and no idea what's going on. Solar flares, superflares, the Carrington Flare, man-made E.M.P.s, coronal mass ejections, planetary orbits, and Kepler's third law, to name a few, were among the scientific artifacts weaved into the plot. It made the book a lot more'smart' and entertaining to read, while still being quite simple to read. The story's introduction of the new US Space Force was fantastic.
I recall President Trump's proposal for a Space Force branch of the military, and now it has become a reality. Our military has officially entered the twenty-first century! My favorite character in the series is Dear Leader DL. He's the type of villain we all despise. I hope he learns to be informed on the technology that his team is working on. This is an incredible suspense novel. The author's writing style intrigued me, and I believe she is a competent writer. The characters were well-developed, and it was written in the third-person perspective.
The use of comedy is one of my favorite aspects of this book. A thriller with a sense of humour is a winning combo for a great story. In addition, the author used storytelling approaches to present scientific phenomena to her readers and the general public. Until I read this book, I had no idea what an electromagnetic pulse was. She did an excellent job explaining and introducing these phenomena. I thought the notion of utilizing Professor Kinney Peter as a character to explain this was a good one.
Another aspect of this novel that I admire is the characters' willingness to fight for their country despite the fact that they are in a situation that prevents them from doing so. Tom and Kelly were newlyweds, and they were supposed to be on their honeymoon when the attack was planned. This book did not disappoint me in any way. Because I detected no flaws, I presume the book was professionally edited. As a result, I'm going to give this book four out of four stars. People who enjoy thrillers with a hint of romance will enjoy this novel. It was impossible for me to put it down. I was disappointed when I completed it. Making a reader feel that way needs a skilled writer.
