Amnesia has caused Hattie Vavaseur, 63, to experience memory loss as a result of the condition. After attending a rather dull funeral, she is taken to a mysterious manor, where she is convinced, she is dead. In fact, she cannot recall her past life. She just knows that after her fiancé left her for another woman, she led a lonely life cut off from society.

Hattie Vavaseur written by M. Rebecca Wildsmith takes place during the 1920s. Hattie finds herself in a parallel reality of an afterlife where most of the inmates of the manor are dead, and she is in a manor full of ghosts. However, these ghosts do perform other activities that humans do. Vamelda, an interesting occultist with a career as a medium, is a friend she makes in the manor. It occurs over the course of the book that Hattie, with the help of Vamelda, tries to reclaim her memories.

Aside from the interesting characterization, I found the author to be a very gifted storyteller. It was a delightful read because the author hid secret messages within each chapter. One of the aspects of this book that I liked was Hattie herself. Despite strange circumstances, she carries on regardless and is one of my favorite characters, with the mysterious man of the manor coming in second. Nothing about this book turned me off.

Neither grammatical mistakes nor typos could be found in the book proving that a thorough proofreading process has been conducted on the book. There are no foul words in the book, even those that border on being offensive. It is void of erotic scenes. In keeping with the 1920s setting, the author has also made sure that the language is authentic. It is still fairly easy to understand and follow the language, even though it is set in that dialect. Although it is a small book, it is difficult to leave without finishing it. While it covers a variety of genres, including supernatural, humor, mystery, thriller, and romance, it maintains a high standard of quality in all of them.

The writing style and content of Rebecca Wildsmith's novel Hattie Vavaseur earns her four out of four stars from me. I strongly recommend this book to those who enjoy paranormal, mystery, thriller, and crime books, as well as for humor readers. Young adults will enjoy this book since it is a crime thriller and supernatural book.
