[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Choices: A Treasure Hunt Thriller" by Alan L Moss.]
The Choices: A Treasure Hunt Thriller by Alan L. Moss is an exciting adventure about a deadly treasure hunt. Mia, a geology student, discovered a way to find diamonds that were created by an asteroid that crashed into the earth. She teamed up with a wealthy businessman named, Ben Azeer, in hopes of finding and recovering the treasure. Things quickly go bad, and Mia realizes she may have gotten in over her head.
Gary is enjoying life with his wife until they end up in the middle of a mass shooting. Gary instinctively tackles the shooter, but his wife is shot before he can stop the mad man. Gary feels lost after this tragic event and travels to a remote cabin to clear his mind. While at the cabin he comes across a dog that has been shot and decides to take the dog home with him. This dog belongs to Mia and is the key to finding the diamonds. This decision leads Gary down a dangerous path where he gets wrapped up in a hunt for rare diamonds worth millions of dollars. Unfortunately, he is not the only one after the treasure, and the situation quickly becomes deadly. Will Gary find the treasure or end up on the bad side of dangerous men?
I really enjoyed this story. Gary seems like a kind and caring man whose ambition drives him to make some questionable decisions. His goal is to use the money from the diamonds to help end violence like the shooting that took his wife from him. Gary also has loving and supportive parents. Caroline is also a likable character. She gets unexpectedly sucked into the drama of the diamond hunt. She gets chased by gunmen and is terrified, but she quickly begins to have feelings for Gary and can’t walk away. She wants to tell Gary how she feels but wants to be respectful of the loss that he is going through. They are easy characters to care about and root for.
It is hard to come up with any negative aspects of this book. Some of the dramatic events that the main characters escape from are unbelievable, but they make for an exciting story. Even the “bad” characters are hard to hate. Ben Azeer did some bad things, but he does have a claim to the diamonds. He is the man that paid for the research to find them.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I did not find a single editing error, so this book is clearly professionally edited. The story has a good steady pace, there is a lot of action, and it even includes a little bit of romance.
I highly recommend this book to fans of adventure novels. This book does contain gun violence, but only minor profanity.
