Review of The Lesson

The Lesson is a fictional book written by Randy Getrost. This novel is a faith-based fictional mystery that happens within the span of a few days. John, a successful and retired sheriff, returns to the place where he had called home at one point with a clear-cut-out purpose; however, life intrudes. Even though he arrives home not searching for anything out of the ordinary, he is immediately caught up in something huge.
This book goes over the experience of John in a few days. After John arrives at the plantation to put plans of selling the house in motion, he realizes soon enough that he had stepped into a dangerous and mysterious situation. Soon, the new sheriff, an attractive young woman, enters the picture, and after an eventful start, they become pseudo partners. The old sheriff joins them soon enough, and the three of them begin their quests for answers. John finds himself on an unexpected journey, one that takes him down the path of memory lane very often. A journey to find the truth, and probably love. Together, one current and two retired, the three sheriffs must navigate the sea of lies, betrayals, and death to find a culprit.
The first positive aspect I found in favor of the book was the humour that flowed between the characters. The wit and dry humor of the characters provided good laughs at specific points. The book also had enough mystery to keep the readers intrigued, and as a lover of mysteries, I really loved the author's delivery.
The first negative aspect I found in the book was in respect to dialogue. The dialogue of the characters was not always clearly separated from the narration. This sometimes made reading a bit confusing. Another negative aspect was its editing. I found a lot of errors in it while reading it. Also, another negative aspect I found was how easily Cass was able to let two retired sheriffs without authority and jurisdiction become part of a case. It doesn't seem likely that a sheriff would allow such a situation so easily. Thus, I found it quite unusual.
I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars. I did not rate it lower because despite the negative aspects, The Lesson is a fantastic book, and I had a wonderful time reading it. I couldn't give it a perfect rating because I found so much errors in it.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves crime books. I also recommend it to anyone who enjoys mysteries. If you are looking forward to a thrilling book, you will enjoy this one.
