Deadbeat by Terence J Quinn introduced Jonno Bligh, the chief editor of the UK Times, who could be described as a tough, gentle, and hard-headed young man who believed so much in giving the people premium news no matter the cost. His colleagues and the new boss loved him. He had a great colleague named Shiv O'Shea, who helped him get juicy information from sources. She helped him bring some notable corrupt men to book, and the agency itself had also suffered in different areas. They sometimes worked with the police to ensure that judgements from the courts were implemented. This doggedness and dedication had led to the death of some of his colleagues, but Jonno seemed to be different. How different can he remain when the storms rage against him?

The book had three parts. The first part talked about how Jamila, the female suicide bomber and ISIS agent, won despite the effort of the news agency and the security. The second part discussed how a little young recruit, Martina Harris, had lost her life all in a bid to become a major reporter. The third part exposed all the secrets they needed and the challenges they had faced for a long time.

The book had a lot of positive points. Firstly, it all came together to form a captivating story despite having three parts. The author did an excellent job at coordinating the work beautifully. The author's simple diction made the work easy to appreciate by readers at all levels of learning. The author was able to draw certain emotions from the readers with some prominent parts of the book. While I was reading the scene of the bombings and loss of lives, I felt so much sympathy for the victims of such excruciatingly painful tragedy. The book extensively explained the challenges of resilient journalists and reporters who devote their lives to getting groundbreaking information that would produce award-winning results.

The story also had negative points. It contained a lot of foreign languages ranging from French to Russian and Arabic, yet some of those words were not translated. It affected my reading of the book to an extent. Also, some characters in the book were not well developed.

I rate Terence J Quinn's Deadbeat 3 out of 4 stars because the author did a great job captivating the reader, creating suspense, and drawing certain emotions from the reader. The book was also well written and detailed. I had an issue with the fact that Terence J Quinn used a lot of vulgar words both in formal and informal meetings. I also had an issue with the fact that the book contained uninterpreted foreign languages.

The book was exceptionally well edited. I found no error in it. I recommend Deadbeat to Journalists, reporters, and detectives. Lovers of crime fiction will undoubtedly have a great time with this one.

This is quite the thriller! Some journalists find themselves in some very scary predicaments when they are covering stories such as suicide bombings.

Your review is very thorough, too.

It takes great courage to be able to fight against corruption especially in the face of difficulties and contradictions.
