This author greatly impressed me with the way he handled what would seem to be old, shop-worn ideas and themes. I wouldn't call it "a roller coaster ride" because I hate roller coasters 
but I WAS completely enthralled and deeply involved and invested in the characters. I even liked some of the characters despite myself, exactly as I do in life. All in all, an amazing book!
