Ray was tired of being woken up to go to work in the middle of the night. His wife, Gail, was tired of it, too. The dog had grown used to the difficult times. Ray was tired of quick showers, cold breakfasts, and having no time to shave. Mostly, he was tired of having to get out of bed because he was called to the scene of a murder. This one was a young woman in a blue sedan who liked koalas. Her murder had been made to look like a random carjacking gone wrong. When will this ever end?

Jason Stark had just moved in with his grandmother, Adell Decker, and he had missed curfew again. This time he was more than an hour and a half late. Adell was worried about him because of the recent and unexpected death of his mother, among other things. This night, though, she was more worried about her neighbor. Libby, the neighbor, was supposed to pick up some insulin Adell had gotten for her at the pharmacy. Were these incidents connected? Was Jason involved? You'll have to read this to find out.

I like Detective Schiller's determination to stay in touch with his former partner and then not follow through on it. This flaw, among other things, made him a real and relatable character. Who can't relate to letting less important tasks get in the way of what they mean to do? The use of time stamps as headings at the beginning of and inside of most chapters was a nice touch. They allowed me to keep up with the flow of the story. It was only after accepting this book that I realized it was Book Seven out of seven in a series. (I guess I didn't read the description as carefully as I thought.) Luckily, it is a stand alone novel. While there were a few references to things that must have happened in previous books, enough description of them was given to keep the reader from feeling lost.

There was only one thing that I could find to dislike about the book. Some of the chapters were very short. They could have easily been integrated with the chapters immediately before or immediately after without disrupting the meaning of either.

I recommend this novel to lovers of detective stories. Detectives Schiller and Thornton provide an excellent, if not foolproof, investigation of the facts. This would also be good for anyone who likes stories about coming of age. There's more than one of them here. I think even younger adults would be able to get something great out of this novel. There are some adult concepts, so I would be careful about allowing children to read it without supervision.

I liked reading this book immensely. I give Collision Course by Marjorie Swift Doering 4 out of 4 stars. This novel has been well edited. There were only a handful of errors to be found, and those were mostly misplaced punctuation. It seems to me to have been thoroughly researched as well. Ms. Doering evidently learned a few things about detective work by writing the first six novels.

Seven books on a series is quite a feat. I'm also a fan of detective stories, so I guess I'll check them out. Thanks for the review.

I like it when the books that are in a series are standalone novels. This book piques my interest as I do enjoy detective stories. Thanks for an excellent review!

This seems to be an interesting book and having to wake up at midnight for work is an odd hour. I will have to check this book out because uncovering murder cases is interesting.
