Head of State by Andrew Marr

I was wondering if anyone has read Head of State by Andrew Marr?
For those who would like to it is a political mystery set during the 2017 referendum on whether or not England should stay part of the European Union. The seemingly sure result is put at risk by a series of bodies and the political conspiracy that discovery threatens to unfold. It is a really enjoyable read with enough twist and turns to keep the mind bogiling for quite a while and I thoroughly recommend it.
However my question is this, for those who have read it do you think it a little too extreme or could something like this really happen in the world of politics today
