Review of Mrs Saville

Mrs Saville by Ted Morrissey is a story about a housewife who, feeling the absence of her husband, writes letters to him each day with details of the events which occurred during each day. It focuses on Mrs. Margaret Saville, a housewife whose husband has been away on a business trip for many months. She, feeling lonely, writes letters to her husband to inform him about the various events happening around the house and their lives. She often writes for days before posting these letters. She carries out this practice because it makes her feel close to him. After a while, her husband stops responding to her letters, which she finds odd. She would later discover that he also stopped responding to the letters from his employer, Mr. Pfender as well. What happened to her husband? Did he abandon his life and family?
This book makes excellent use of various descriptive words. Not only does it excellently describe events, but it also describes people to the point where it is really easy for the reader to have a picture of the person or the event taking place then. It also immerses the reader in the action going on in the book. For instance, the dream Mrs. Saville had was so descriptive that the reader could picture themselves walking beside her all through the dream. This is one of the positive aspects of the book.
Also, the book utilizes suspense to great effect. For instance, from the beginning of the book, one is left wondering what happened to Margaret's brother on his voyage. The author gives nothing away and guards this secret, drawing the attention of the reader to continue reading the book until he eventually discovers the answer. Also, the reader is left in the dark as to the reason why Margaret's husband has not been responding to the letters. The literary devices employed by the author in this book would captivate any reader.
I discovered no negative aspects in this book, and there are very few errors in the book, which leads one to believe that this book was professionally edited by an individual with a great understanding of the English language. Also, the writer makes use of words the average person can easily understand.
Putting everything into consideration, I will rate this book four out of four stars. The language and overall plot of the book are amazing, and I will recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers and all lovers of prose fiction.
