David’s Sling by Andrew Ceroni is an action-packed thriller revolving around espionage and terrorism. A member of the Red Storm Movement, a German terrorist group, came to the United States of America using a false identity. David McClure, the CIA’s top agent, is called for a briefing in Germany. The CIA, FBI, and the BKA, Germany’s Federal Criminal Office, work together to apprehend the member, Franz Altmann. David and the agencies soon learn that Franz is working with Russians, whose intent is to not only cause destruction to the United States but also to take down Germany’s leadership. Throughout the book, David overcomes many threats including some from his past he thought he had dealt with.

I love how well-developed the characters are. The action starts early in the first chapter and continues throughout the book. I loved that the momentum of the plot starts early, and it just continues to twist and turn throughout the book. The book is very realistic, which I thoroughly enjoy in thriller and crime books. I love that the author uses different perspectives to help the reader understand where the antagonist’s thoughts are. I enjoyed that the plot was semi-predictable but kept the reader guessing.

I disliked Barbara’s character because it felt like she did not fit in the story well. It felt like she was put in as an afterthought. There was one instance in the book I felt was odd. When David, who is supposed to be a CIA agent, does not notice a yelp from a dog. A dog yelping is quite loud and definitely draws attention, so I felt it was odd that it wasn’t noticed.

I rated this book 3 out of 4 stars. This book was action-packed from the very beginning. The plot was gripping and kept me wanting to read more. There were a couple of errors in the book, but they were minor and did not take away from the flow. I was unable to give the full rating due to the reasons I mentioned earlier in the review.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves crime books. This thriller is so action-packed it holds attention easily. The story has a great pace and flows well. The book is very fast-paced, and the plot is very detailed and intricate. This book does contain some scenes that might not be suitable for a younger audience, so I would recommend this to adult audiences.

Despite the flaws you pointed out, this seems like an engaging spy thriller with a lot of action and well-constructed characters involved in what might become an international crisis. Thank you for your great review!
