Hattie is fetched up by a driver after a funeral, but she doesn’t remember where she’s supposed to be going. Confused by her amnesia but proud and stubborn as she is, she doesn’t ask a soul where is she being taken and just goes with it. After a visit to the local medium against her will, she has more clarity as to why she has been set up in a big old house and the reason for her amnesia. But she also leaves with a lot more questions and a mystery to solve.

In Hattie Vavaseur by M. Rebecca Wildsmith, you will find a delightful mystery set in England at the beginning of the XX century centered on the character of Hattie, a smart high society woman that has to dig into her past to find the answers to the paranormal enigma she’s in.

I enjoyed the whole reading, for it had mystery, romance, and humor. I liked the diversity of the characters, being my favorite the medium Vamelda, an eccentric woman who can talk with the dead in a very histrionic way to impress her clients, which makes Hattie roll her eyes at what she considers nonsense. The two characters are poles apart in personality, but both have a good heart, making their interaction rather amusing.

Even though this is a paranormal mystery novel, it doesn’t enter the field of horror nor gets too dark, but it is more a heart-warming read you can’t put down. The story is well-paced. In the beginning, you feel as lost as Hattie, but she gets the help of her nephew Gerald, who travels to America to investigate the mystery, so the reader receives new information to put the puzzle together and try to guess what will be next.

What I liked the most in the book was that although Hattie keeps getting new clues to solve her mystery, the plot doesn't get predictable. There were many times I rose my brows in surprise at the twists in the plot, which were consistent with the story.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for it didn’t have a single thing I didn’t like. The language used was exquisite and the editing was excellent, I found no errors. There were no profanities, the violence was minimal, and there is no sexual content more than a couple of kisses. I think this book is a match for those who enjoy witty humor, mystery, and romance, no matter the age. So, if you are into the genre, I highly recommend you to read it along with a warm cup of tea.
