Review of The Date Farm
Things were running as usual in a popular mall in Beverly Hills. As usual, the mall was crowded and all of its floors buzzed with a constant traffic of rowdy people. Two suspicious men clad in black entered the mall, but everybody went about their business as usual. In fact, nobody had even the faintest idea that something was wrong, and the few people who took notice of them thought they were the usual artists who frequented the area — until everything took a turn for the worst.
The men unpacked automatic weapons and sprayed loads after loads of live ammunition into the frantic crowd after detonating teargas grenades all over before ending their own lives. It was obvious terrorists were out in the wild again. The task fell on Lara and Uri (now a married couple) to find and stop whatever person or group sent them. Will they succeed? And who was behind the attack? Find out in The Date Farm by Jack Winnick.
This marks the last book I've read in this series (it is, however, the fourth in the series). I have already read the first book (East Wind, Second Edition), second book (Devil Among Us), third book (Devil in False Colors), and the fifth and last book (Waterworks). In all books, you'll immediately notice that a high quality of narration is an unchanging and unparalleled aspect through and through. This book also comes with the perks present in all the other installments — like good character development, a wonderful and well-thought-out narration, well-sustained suspense, mind-blowing twists and turns, and some quality romance. These are stamp marks that are evident in Winnick's works, which always had me glued to every book I've read from the series.
While the books revolve around the same idea — fighting terror — each new installment has a unique narration and storyline, and this book is not left out in this ever-changing creative creation. The main characters remain to be Uri and Lara through and through, but they develop and gain different roles and personalities with each new book, which slaps some dynamism into each new narration. Also, the ever-changing supporting characters and new villains aid in making each book worthwhile. Therefore, it is a wonderful thing that I had something dynamic in this installment.
Overall, the quality gets a thumbs up. Everything is perfectly presented, and I can't think of any negative aspects about this book that can make me give a lower rating. Because of this, the book gets 4 out of 4 stars. There are no errors or typos I came across, so the book has been exceptionally well-edited.
I recommend the book to readers who love suspenseful crime thrillers. I'm sad that this is Winnick's last book in this series, but I'll readily read any other books by him because of his skillful way of writing.
