The book B-Side by Janis Jones takes the reader through a murder mystery coupled with romance. B-Side follows the complicated relationship of the main characters Mara and Casey. When Casey is violently attacked one night, Mara is determined to use her power as a detective to figure out who her attacker was. Mara has the help of her partner Derek. However, they have issues of their own to work on and have to face the past they hold. As Mara works on the case, the reader is introduced to different characters and side plots. This leaves the reader on the edge of their seat continuously waiting to see how everything connects. B-Side keeps the reader intrigued by not revealing the mystery until the end of the book. The reader is left at the end with a few questions still, wishing that there was more to read.

In my opinion, I felt this was a really good book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and couldn’t put it down. I was continuously trying to figure out how all of the characters were connected and felt like I was solving the mystery alongside detective Mara. I was as invested in the case as the characters were. I felt that it left on a bit of a cliffhanger. While the mystery was solved at the end, it also opened an entirely new one within the final pages. I wanted to know more about what happened afterward. B-Side kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

One thing that I wish would have been added, was more character development with some of the side characters. I felt that there were characters introduced that were crucial to the story but underdeveloped. I would have liked to see more context and background surrounding some of these characters. While their underdevelopment didn’t hurt the story, I felt it would have made the book that much better if the reader had more information about them.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars . I chose this rating because I felt that the book was exceptionally well written. There wasn’t any point that I felt the story was hard to follow or didn’t make sense. It did a wonderful job of keeping me interested the entire time. The book flowed smoothly throughout.

I would recommend this book to young adults and above. The book does contain quite a bit of profanity which would not be suitable for younger children. I think that this is a good young adult murder mystery. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone that loves a good mystery.
