Review of Ghost in the Flame
Ghost in the Flame by Kim Allen is a horror novella about a group of people trapped inside a burnt house without knowing how they got there or where they are. Follow the gripping story of Dianne, Nathan, Robert, Bell, and Anthony as they learn to accept the past, the betrayal, and the truth.
The aspect I liked the most about this novella was that it’s true to its themes. The horror of reading twisted murders and torture makes me want to claw my insides and throw up. The mystery aspect of this novel is easy to deduce. Even before the antagonist explained what happened to the main characters, I already knew what was up, but reading how the author unraveled the scene as the plot thickens is so good. There’s really something satisfying when an avid reader gets to read a well-written horror novella.
The author also wrote the characters satisfactorily. The emotions of their characters are on point. The storyline's structure is not confusing, even though the chapters jump from one character’s story to another. There’s nothing I disliked about the author’s prowess in writing the plot. Though, I did dislike the lack of logical reasons to commit the murders. However, I think that was intentional to show the antagonists' psychopathic behavior and other mental illnesses. Also, I wouldn't say I liked how one of the characters portrayed acceptance. I was literally shaking with fear and anger, but what happened in the scene was utterly messed up by sane people's standards.
In conclusion, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The storyline is so good, albeit very disturbing. It kept me up at night thinking about what happened, and I believe that is a sign of how well-written the plot is. I liked how the book's story was written, but I wouldn't say I liked how the author wrote the resolution. I also noticed a lot of grammatical mistakes, which is enough to knock off one star.
I would recommend this to people who enjoy reading crime, horror, mystery, and paranormal books. The book was very messed up, and I was relieved that it only has 66 pages; otherwise, I don’t think I’ll be able to finish this book sane. My heart felt so constricted as I read all those disturbing scenes. It’s not for the faint of heart, indeed. With that said, the content warnings are drug abuse, sexual abuse, and torture.

I really wonder what happened to the people trapped in the house.
