Noah Gladney is a hardworking, kind man who wants to make his passion for singing and songwriting into a career. With the help of a friend from work, Noah is given the chance to showcase his gift to two music studio executives. Impressed by his talent, they immediately offered him a job with their studio in Los Angeles. Even though it seems his life is about to become everything he’s ever wanted, Noah is forced to endure betrayal and cruelty from those he thought were closest to him and face the painful memories that have inspired his songs. Will he be able to overcome these challenges? Will he be able to be successful in such a cut-throat, uncaring industry? The Soul Singer by T. L. Goss takes readers behind the scenes of the music industry and shows the number of challenges aspiring artists face, even incredibly talented ones.

I absolutely loved reading this book. Goss’s writing style made the story play out like a movie in my head, and I did not want it to end. The plot kept me engaged from the beginning to the end. So many things, both positive and negative, happened to Noah, and I felt as if I rode those waves alongside him. Even though Noah is the main character, I liked that there was focus on other characters at times, even if Noah was not present. This gave me a better understanding of the characters themselves as well as a well-rounded picture of the events that happened throughout the book. The author had an amazing ability to weave Noah’s memories seamlessly with the present, allowing readers to fully understand the inspiration behind many of Noah’s songs. Having the memories written before the song lyrics helped me fully appreciate the lyrics themselves and the emotions behind them, which I loved.

I had no negatives to mention for this book. Some moments came across as far-fetched, but this only added to the soap opera-like drama.

I give this book a 4 out of 4. I was captivated from start to finish, and I did not want the story to end. I also had no negatives to cause me to give a lower rating. There were very few errors, and the ones I did find did not interfere with my enjoyment of the book.

I would recommend this novel to adult readers who enjoy fiction novels, especially fiction focused more on relationship drama than action. Due to the sexual situations, profanity, and adult topics throughout the book, I would not recommend this to young readers. There are incidents of domestic violence mentioned, so readers who are sensitive to this topic might need to avoid this book.

I admire Noah's ability to overcome these betrayals. One thing we must be ready for when things start working out for us is challenges.

Thanks for the nice review. I was impressed by Noah but also felt peaty for him. Hardworking and kind but faces injustice from the people he thought where close to him. Thanks to the author for that beautiful story.

Sexual situations are very uncomfortable for me so I’m glad that you mentioned it. We all have things that we just have to get over, but when potential employers take advantage of these things it is especially disheartening.

I'm not sure about this novel, as it has some interesting elements but soap opera style gets me bored very easily. Regardless, thank you for your great review!
