Like My Mother Before Me by Naley Gonzalez, is a brilliant supernatural novel about Alizé Salvas. A 16-year-old girl who one day has an uninvited guest in her room who looks exactly like her mother. But how is that possible when her mum died when she was little? Along with school drama, homework, boys, and getting grounded, she starts having nightmares about a shadow that seems to be after her. Is she blessed or is she cursed? With the help of her brother and her best friend, she plans to find out.

I am a big supernatural fan. I love stories about ghosts, demons, and everything else. Like My Mother Before Me had everything I would want from a supernatural novel. It has a mystery at the start, as you weren't sure who the uninvited guest was, and you can’t put the book down because you want to find out what is lurking in the shadows. On top of this, you also got to follow Alizé’s normal life in school with friends and crushes, which made the novel almost realistic. It had a great balance between what I would call normal every day life and also lots of action and mystery with the supernatural. The formatting in Like My Mother Before Me is excellent as well. I think I found two mistakes in the whole book, which was impressive. It is also shown clearly when something is written as someone's thoughts and what is normal conversation. Everything was so great with the book that every moment I got I just had to keep on reading it.

I am trying really hard to find something that I didn’t like about Like My Mother Before Me, and I am struggling. I really can’t think of anything. The characters were really believable; her dad finding it a hard time to believe Alizé’s visions and nightmares; her godmother being supportive without pushing her to tell her more; and her brother staying out of her way until he realises that his little sister really needs him.

I have to give Like My Mother Before Me a strong four out of four. It is so perfect for me that I just can’t find anything bad to say about it.

I can’t recommend Like My Mother Before Me by Naley Gonzalez enough. Yes, it does have swear words in it, and it does hint at rape and drinking as well as drugs, but it goes well with the story and it might not have been the same without it. But because of this, I would recommend that the readers be at least 18 years old.
